Umm Thanks jcarpenter-1 for enlightening me ! For info:

"My Country, 'Tis of Thee", also known as "America", is an American patriotic song, whose lyrics were written by Samuel Francis Smith.[2] The melody used is the same as that of the national anthem of the United Kingdom, "God Save the Queen", arranged by Thomas Arne. The song served as one of the de facto national anthems of the United States (along with songs like "Hail, Columbia") before the adoption of "The Star-Spangled Banner" as the official anthem in 1931.

'British nation anthem'

God Save the Queen is the anthem of the Royal family played throughout the Commonwealth, Britain is not a country it is an island, and England does not have a national anthem at all.

reply

God Save the Queen (or King) is the UK National Anthem. The UK is a country.

reply

lol, the UK at present consists of 3 countries and 6 counties of Ireland's total of 32 (aka for the moment "Northern Ireland") so it's either 3 or 4 countries depending on how you view the status of 2/3rds of Ulster's 9 counties. Flower of Scotland is Scotland's national anthem at events where the Scottish participants are recognized as a separate nation, eg. international football, rugby, political assemblies. GSTQ is only sung in Scotland by fools who support Rangers FC to show they're not there for any football but to display their naked sectarianism, treason to Scotland and support for a German Royal Family imposting as their head of state. Also the loyalists of Ulster for similar reasons, sectarian division. The vast majority of Scots and Irish sing their own national anthems, as do the Welsh. But yeah, back to the UK being a country... LOL

Did you really laugh out loud twice? Should we investigate the validity of that statement as thoroughly as your comment regarding this statement?

reply

@OneTrueBroad There are 4 countries in the UK; England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Together they are recognised by almost everyone as making up one country. Extremists have taken over Scotland but fortunately most Scottish people are sane.

👏👏👏

@OneTrueBroad: You obviously only take from history whatever fits your opinion. Calling the Windsors a German family is like calling Barack Obama Kenyan. It would be more accurate to say that the Scottish Royal Family rules over the UK as it was Scottish King James VI that inherited the English throne and united the two kingdoms. And as with most Royal Houses in Europe, there had been foreign influence into the Royal Family. In this case mostly German. But also some Greek, Danish and Scottish. But it does not make the British Royal Family anything other than British.

So, keep your ignorant opinions to yourself. Fortunately, the majority of Scots still favour a Constitutional Monarchy and as Queen Elizabeth II is still, by law AND by blood, the Queen of Scotland, the status quo will prevail.

Nonsense! Britain IS regarded as a country. It comprises England, Scotland and Wales (excl Northern Ireland). You can Google this if you don't agree. Great Britain is the island that these countries are on. This island was so called to distinguish it from the smaller island to the West (Ireland). Great Britain is also the official name used for sporting events where the UK participates as one country eg The Olympic Games. Furthermore God Save The Queen/King IS the national anthem of both the United Kingdom AND England.
