Making a mountain out of a mole hill...

I studied WWII in college, read many books and watched numerous shows and that in NO WAY makes me an expert but let me say, IMHO that this premise of the show is HIGHLY unlikely. Like noted on this board, they disregarded any testimony of the actual people in the bunker, just have a handful of old FBI documents which are frankly, to be expected (people think they see something...hear rumors, etc..and the FBI has to make note of said allegations). The show has brought a few interesting things to light but
The Allies controlled the airspace, there were many people in the bunker (I'm sure you've seen "The World at War" mini-series from 1973-4...I have...all 30 odd episodes) that saw bodies being dragged out to be burned, none ever had any doubts it was Hitler. And from what shoddy Soviet records remain and agents...some still alive...said many times the bodies were burned some more, buried in East Berlin, and then moved and burned again in around 1974. What one KGB agent said recently (and I'm paraphrasing) "there is nothing left of Hitler, absolutely nothing." Knowing what I've read, watched, I find it highly unlikely he made an escape. I'm leaving a lot out, too... Like he was in horrible shape and would have required a doctor to go with him IMHO. I just wonder why the show has barely mentioned his physical health. After reading this message board, the consensus seems to be much ado about nothing and making a show out of very limited material. It will end like all the Bigfoot shows... They will find nothing. Hey, at least it's not another Bigfoot show.

P.S. During the war a psychological profile was developed of Hitler and the Dr. and his team concluded he would commit suicide, and they were spot on concerning many things, such as Hitler would be more reclusive as the war went on. Just a side note. I'll still watch it for entertainment value...

P.P.S The British investigative reporter just seems so convinced they are right on his tail...just kinda amuses me.

Agreed! 

Thanks. I'm sure we could go on and on about what this show is "missing" but we'd be writing for hours..lol..Can't believe they bypassed any testimony of those in the bunker like T. Junge, Hitlers young secretary who died a few years ago. And I believe a couple guards are still alive. Wouldn't that be the starting point???

reply

NO! Because those "witnesses" are part of the conspiracy. Don't you get it? Why don't you get it?

reply

I get their "conspiracy theory" trust me.

reply

The last surviving witness died 2 years, IIRC. And anyone whose story contradicts the show's narrative will be quietly ignored.

reply

Yep. And many, like T. Jungle, were far from Hardcore Nazi's during the war and certainly after spoke of the horrors that the Nazis had done to the world and during the at they were obliviously go these things..

EXACTLY! Many times they say "the FBI investigated this" just because there is some note in a file! It's just a note and doesn't mean they took any more seriously than a Bigfoot sighting in Central Park!

I am encouraged by the responses on this board, but really makes me wonder how this terrible excuse for a "documentary" has a 7.4 rating so far. Did everybody not commenting give this rubbish a 10?

reply

I have no idea how it got to a 7.4

This deserves a bump, there is actually a second season.

How can a medium that serves up this utter tripe call itself "The History Channel" is beyond comprehension.

if it was any good they'd have made an American version by now - Hank Hill

reply

Well, at least it's more interesting than "American Pickers" and "Oak Island"!

reply

The History Channel used to be a pretty good channel some 13+ years ago, but whenever I check at certain dates like JFK 11/22 or Thanksgiving, they don't show more than maybe one or two documentaries which is pretty disappointing.

The only interesting documentary which I have watched on the History Channel within the past 14 months was about the Lost Colony in NC.
They need to leave lame shows like "American Pickers" and "Oak Island" behind and focus more on producing documentaries which really have something to do with US history (or WW II).

When I still lived in Germany before 2002, German TV bought tons of interesting WW II documentaries from the History Channel, but whenever I check their program now, I don't find anything that picks/piques (sp?) my interest. Just American Pickers and Oak Island...:(.

No wonder I will watch the second 2.

reply

Excellent point. It's not as if there is shortage of great documentaries out there. There is also a rather large audience for them if you check their cable ratings against other fare on at the same hours.

I have been watching more and more of the AHC (American Heroes Channel) programming is what the History Channel should be showing. I had assumed the acronym stood for "American History Channel", and it fits much better.

They recently showed the excellent "Hitlers Bodyguards" set of documentaries, they also have "Unsolved History", the WWII in HD color series etc.

Only downside (on my cable system-RCN) is that AHC is only broadcast in low definition, they don't have a slot with the HD channels yet.

reply

I agree, there are many documentaries out there. I see new ones in Netflix all the time. And they even receive an award at the Academy Awards once a year.

Will check for AHC. Thanks for the tip!

I've watched "Hitler's Bodyguards", WW II in color and hundreds of other WW II and 1930's documentaries on Nazis.
I wish there would be more on O. D. E. S. S. A. though!

reply

Yea I've been "watching" the second season and it reminds me SO MUCH of "The Curse of Oak Island." A dog chasing it's tail. I am also glad to read responses on here that are in no way buying this junk but as you said how it got to a 7.4 rating...I dunno.

Say what you will.....he was no coward...was ill physically, addicted to drugs...he went down with his ship. No WAY he'd risk being caught.
