Synchronicity

Something funny happened when I saw Paterson today. First of all, I took a bus to get to the theater, so I was already thematically prepared for the film. On the way there, I took notice of a bench bearing an anti-domestic abuse ad that read, "If I can't have you, then nobody will." How bizarre it was for me, then, that in this film about synchronicity, this very phrase is uttered by a character, and one in a domestic quarrel, at that. If that weren't enough, after the lights went up at the end of the film, I saw that the woman sitting in front of me had a black sweatshirt covered in little white circles. Just made the experience all the richer.

the coincidence with the sweatshirt is interesting. the line however is all too familiar to a great many people in the world and so many women in particular have suffered because of it. that is most certainly not a coincidence about the poster and the line in that it is a common phrase used but is in the way of the sequence of it being repeated in the same day
