re: the dog
Weird question for those who've seen it.
Does the dog die/get seriously injured?
I've a hard time handling that and would like to know before I go to the cinema.
Lately most films I've seen with dogs in them had this play out.

2016 was a bad year for dogs in cinema.

Om Mani Padme Hum
Gives me something to look forward to.
If only he had known why the *beep* gonna do by the end of the week, he probably would have thrown it in front of the car.

I know, you feel like a total tool for having to ask what appears to be such a stupid question, but I have had to ask/research the same thing in the past few years, as it seems to be normal now to have any pet in any movie die graphically and horrifically.
Revenge is a dish that best goes stale.
The dog's name is Marvin. Marvin is one of the most delightful characters in the film and steals numerous scenes! In fact, you know how they say that owner's begin to resemble their dogs and vice versa. I saw a parallel between Paterson and his dog. They were both not terribly attractive and posessed low energy. They were also great listeners and observers of human behavior. Paterson would quietly observe passenger conversations on his bus, while at home it was Marvin who was always listening to the conversation between Paterson and his girl friend.
