Did not like the poetry at all

I thought, that the poetry in this movie was really not even remotly good. For me it felt not even intermediate (I might get some hate for sounding like a dull teacher in Dead Poets Society)...

But I get, that the movie tried to show a very ordinary life of two very ordinary people. Not everybody is exceptionally gifted at the things they love. Neither him as a poet (even a little girl writes "as good" poetry as he does), nor his wife/girlfriend as a designer / musican / cook (remember how awful the cake was...by the way: black and white is not a "destinct" style].

I love several poems, that do not rhyme...so that was not the reason for my disliking. We can argue here about expectations and what defines poetry and all that new age stuff...but I think there are far better poems that go by this formula. Poems about ordinary things.

I think thought the movie was fresh for not being over the top and just exploring minor details. (I loved how Paterson started noticing things, once any female told him the word...like Twins, Fireball, Water Falls/Waterfalls etc.) This is a traid that many people have...and I think it was refreshing focusing on the micro-world and action rather then macro, big, explosions, epicness etc.

Great flick. Bad poetry. But it works for the movie.

If you liked the poetry, would you mind explaining me why? No hate, serious question. Sorry for my articulation. English is my third language n I still suck at it.

I didn't like the poetry either, however now that you pointed it out I guess that was the point? He and his wife were not talented. They were just regular people who had creative outlets that which were very dear to them. I think that's okay!

JJ used modern poets in this film . I find modern poets dont hold a candle to the classic poets such as Blake , Rimbaud , Thomas , Poe etc . That was my first thought . But when I thought about it more poetry that's not incredible suits the character and film . He was a ordinary guy writing ordinary poems . Then again it's all subjective .

He was not a good poet; however, he seemed to improve after his encounter with the young girl and hearing her poem. It was nice, though, that he enjoyed writing poetry and it made him happy.
