What was the prize?

Does anyone know? What did Amanda win? Any fortune to go with the fame? Did Stephanie get a prize as runner up?

reply

The winner usually just receives a glass plate and bragging rights. The first time they did the show in the U.S. they offered a cash prize, but that made the competition more cutthroat. With no cash prize, the bakers are more supportive and more willing to help each other.

Glass plate and bragging rights? ABC broke the budget for this show. I really enjoyed the no yelling, arguing this show presented, but the "chuminess" and helping each other got a little much for me in the finale.

I guess it would open the possibility of getting a baking show on PBS! There seem to be a lot of cooking shows but other than Martha Stewart not much baking.

I agree the chumminess was a bit much. It is a competition after all.

I love the chumminess. It's what sets a show like this apart from the regular cutthroat cooking competition shows, and we have plenty of those.

This show and it's english counterpart remind me more of the Pillsbury Bake Off. They used to air that on Food Network, but i haven't seen that in years. There was also another regional/national competition for pie baking. I can't remember which one it was, but it was just regular people who had something that they baked/cooked really well.

It was fun to watch and those competitors were always helpful and supportive of one another.

Fraaaank. FRANK! Get my jean bin. Susie wants my jeans.
