Judy Robinson (Taylor Russell)... black?

Wha...? The whole family is white in the 1965 tv series, 1973 animation series, and 1998 movie. Think the comics depicted them as all white family as well. So how does an all white family produce a black daughter? Mind blown.

I feel like Hollywood always need to meet some diversity quota by adding at least one token character into the main group if it consists mainly of white people. I also feel its never any other minority mostly besides black (maybe cause they complain the loudest). You rarely see if at all hispanic or asian as that one standalone along the sea of white.

I came here to comment on the issue. The amount of forced diversity that has swept over the entrainment industry is nauseating. Instead diversity washing existing characters that were written as Caucasian, why not create newer ones?

I think the reason I find it so disgusting is because it only panders to black people. You'll notice that "diversity" doesn't mean replacing white characters with Asians, or browns, or hispanics, or native americans, or arabs, it always seems to pander to blacks. It's so obvious what's happening here.

THEY GET TO HAVE THEIR OWN SHOWS HISPANIC SHOWS WITH ONLY HISPANIC PPL ASIAN SHOWS WITH ONLY ASIANS NO WHITES NO BLACKS ARABICS WITH NO BLACK S NO WHITES JUST LOOK ON NETFLIX

Yeah, in this special safe space universe, the white person is killed off and passes down the mantle to all minority characters (mostly black) or the opposite sex. XD

Speaking of which, has there been any minority superhero (black, Hispanic, etc.) that's ever been replaced by a white one? I don't know of any so far so if you do know, let me know because I think it's one sided.

reply

No it only goes one way, white men/boys get replaced by black people or women, imagine the furore if they changed Judy to James!

reply

Women suffer the most minorities suffer the most look around who has all the power duh it’s white men egotistic, sexist, racist white men even though all of them aren’t like that

Actually, in some cases that "literary welfare" is not even needed. The guy who fills ethnic quota playing Don West is Argentinian, and it happens that Argentinian movies are quite good, actually. They are quite difficult to sub or dub, though, since they use to speak fast, lots of slang and double meanings, so they won't succeed in English countries, but

But I suppose, whoever wants to think of himself as a savior, better he doesn't check if the people needs actually being saved.

I'm willing to bet, that if the family was black in the original tv and animation series or just Judy Robison, and for the reboot were/was white, SJW's would loose their shit and would be protesting the show.

reply

Yea but it wasn’t that way but if it was ur damn right we would be

west questioned daddy about judy and he said she's a step daughter. also in the 1st couple of shows in the 60's dr. smith was a really bad man. than they turned him into a woosy.

reply

Its bad casting, she looks the same age, if not younger than her half sister.

reply

Yeah, I was scratching my head over that character as well. You've got four characters as white as Finland and then the one darker skinned teen who looks totally out of place because she IS totally out of place. Is she adopted? Again as with the Doctor Smith character, WTF?!?

Why is race such a big issue with so many Americans? I am guessing that a majority of the comments about Judy Robinson have been made by Yanks. Everything is seen through the prism of race, including a fictional character in a sci fi series!! The James Bond franchise managed to change the race of Miss Moneypenny without any fuss. Why not Lost in Space?

By the way, Judy actually explains to West why she calls John her dad. Maureen had a previous relationship with
( shock! horror!) a black man. Is that what's really shaking people's tree? An interracial relationship? Give me strength.

reply

Nobody would care if a new show featured this family. People are fed up with old characters changing race to appease social justice warriors (the real racists of the 21st century).

reply

In all these racist and sexist posts, people are missing the bigger issue here: Why aren't there any gay couples on this show?!

At least robotkind is represented - but suuuuuuuuure, they portray the one robot as ready to turn evil and kill at the drop of a hat. What is this, the 2200s?
