The right place for the right thing

From the looks of it, this movie is getting a low review because of brazilians that disliked the cast's protest in Cannes and just had the idea "Let's give them a low rating everywhere".
All that before the actual debut of the movie anywhere besides the festival.
This became a political discussion, and this is not the place for that. As a fellow brazilian, when I want to know about the movie, I really would like an actual critic, not more political blabbering. I guess IMDB will have to clean up this mess some time in the future, because for now the rating does not have any solid base.

So, is the movie good or not? No one knows.

Thats what they get for going political, especially when they pick the wrong side of it.

"wrong side"? pfft

Say it to movie's cast.

So the "right side" is giving a low rating to a movie they didn't watch? Wow, they're so smart this "right side"...

There is no such thing as a "wrong side" in politics. I'm not particularly fond of our falling government and I am quite happy to see it going down, even though our remaining options are still pretty bad. However, the cast has the RIGHT to have opinion and share their opinion when they want. As do we.

However, that does not change the quality of the movie. And giving this amount of low ratings just make us ignore IMDB and have to watch it to make our own opinion. This discussion would fit in much better in our own newspapers online pages or in a propper political forum.

This is not punishing the cast. This is punishing people looking for information, and people do not seem able to separate those things, from the looks of it. Thankfully, no one can change the synopsis and there are a few serious critics from outsiders. Because of that I still want to see it, since this looks like a different one from the traditional brazilian plot, centered most of the time in those problems we see all the time in our television, but not as a fiction.

I came here just to say that. This widespread intolerance in our country just makes me think it really does not deserve more than it is getting. Not as long as people do not learn to respect ideas, limits and to think in the collective.

Actually, there is a wrong side and right side of politics. Yeah, it can be subjective but there is always points to counter proving it can be generally bad regardless of how one's view of it can be. That is why we had dictatorships regimens like communism and nazism abolished along the years. If they were that good, they would still exist spread around the world, dont you think?

Like I said, they have the right to do whatever they want, but if they are really going political that far to present a foolish protest during a festival arguing against the validity of the legal process followed according to the constitution, they are basically asking to be the target of the angry mob.

Of course it does not change the quality of the movie, but it adds a bias factor to it and its cast. From that point on, they are taking the merit of the movie simply because they are overshadowing it with silly arguments, the same the former government has been parroting for the last 10 years.

Honestly, I do not take score reviews of any sort literally, as they are subjective to the viewer. I take it mostly as a thermometer on how bad or how good the movie can possibly be, nothing else to it. There is no other way to make sure by watching the movie yourself, and I am sure as hell not going to support a movie that was made with the help of Brazilian taxes because they could not find another way to fund it. To top it off, they decided to use that to favor the government and attack the majority of its population by throwing that sorry ass "protest". If they are that biased, why do you think others wont be when they are rating low scores to the movie? Sonia Braga does not live in Brazil and for the most part must be totally clueless about politics here, she was just shoehorned in it because of money, because she likes dem dollars alright.

If you lived long enough, you would know it all started with LULA government, for them its all about "us vs them", its all divide and conquer for them. Just add the sheer ignorance of the common brazilian populace and you will have the result multipled by a factor of 10.

What these people is doing (rate the movie without seen it is criminal). They are so intolerant and fascist that they don't accept difetent opinions.

reply

They don't acept diferent opinions. Go and make your movie and say what you think about the government. It's happened a soft coup in Brazil because Dilma is not corrupt and did not commited any crime. Our democracy is in danger whith the gang in Brasilia.

reply

What? She is corrupt, but that's not the reason she was impeached.

An indenpendent judiciary though it was ok, it was voted by elected officials and full support of the Brazilian population. And the current president is the vice-president, elected in the previous elections.

That's exactly how a democracy should work.

It got a 85 univeral acclaim rate based on 18 reviews so far on Metacritic and 87 on Rotten Tomatoes. WHO really CARES about the IMDB rates? Most people voting here are the typical fandom kiddos upvoting whatever they love, this is not the place to check the quality of movies based on rates, AT ALL.
