The shamen is ........

Working for the devil!

At first - Part of me feels he was a confidence trickster after money and planted the crow and then got involved in something he couldn't handle and When he gets spooked he prays to Buddha which at first makes it seem like he is a small fish in a big pond.

But then his 'ritual' goes wrong(which also messed up and weakens the 'Japanese man devil' momentarily we know this because he looks for the man in the van he is trying to resurrect as Japanese devil and he also stops him attacking the mob and he is scared of the mob as he is now the old man he used to be. the dad gets his girl back but then runs over the (now) Japanese man and leaves him for dead (allowing the devil to control the japanese man fully) it cuts to the shamen he is happy and says "the fool has taken the bait" - which allows his daughter to be repossed - we know this as her appetite goes crazy again. The nail in the coffin is the camera and photos at the end - cohorts.

But it doesn't make sense that the Shaman would work with the man to kill the demon jap? Why not just do the ritual wrong and pretend like it worked? Why wouldn't woman in white tell the father the shaman is working with the demon? Why didn't woman in white do anything to stop the possessed child from entering? None of it makes sense.

He wasn't working with the Japanese man early on. He was possessed when the death hex backfired. When the mother-in-law decides to recruit him, she mentioned that he has a good reputation, which wouldn't exist if all of the people he tried to help were being massacred.

Yes this is correct. He gets possessed during the death hex, the possession is purged when the lady in white makes him vomit/bleed, he runs home to pray but the demon threatens him with the candle and dead crow and then the moth wall, forcing him to help the demon get through the lady in white's trap so the demon can get the souls of the family.

reply

If the shaman gets possessed, why he calls the dad telling him to don't listen to the ghost girl? If he was really possessed he wouldn't help.

reply

Because he wanted the husband to go back home and break the trap the lady in the white set over the entryway of the property.

reply

I saw it a little more differently. I don't think he knew about the trap the lady in white set. I think he just wanted him to return home so his daughter would kill him too.

Now I realise the lady in white was good. Thank you all!

The Shaman is just a dude. He's not good and if anything weak like all humans. In a sense he's bad because he makes money off suffering people by being a charleton. After the failed hex and all that scary *beep* he realizes the demon is much more powerful than he thought and he can't just slink away quietly like he has always done. He works along side the demon because he feels he has no choice.

I don't think he was ever possessed. He just decided to switch sides when he realized which one was the losing one.
