A pocket knife against an axe? WTF?

Why didn't Alex at least jump to his left as Amy swung the axe, to avoid it?
Stabbing her with a pocket knife won't do anything since bullets from a gun failed to take her down.

And the cop should have just shot at the handle of the axe, instead of at Amy.
She can't do much damage with just the head of an axe. It's the wood handle that makes it effective.

I just don't get why he would sacrifice himself. Like bye.. At least put up a fight. And the others coming back to the camp? After you got away..

I think he realized that his father wasn't weak for taking all the crap from his boss, but instead he was strong for putting up with it so his family could have a decent life. So he wanted to be strong himself. But it only lasted for about 5 seconds. It looks like he was trying to stab her in the throat with the pocket knife, but her axe got him in the chest first. And even if he did stab her, bullets didn't kill her so that pocket knife wasn't going to do much damage. He should have found another way to stall her so Jessie could get away. Maybe take the axe from her, or smash the handle so it would be ineffective.

Yep - and I think he brought the pocket knife out for courage, even though it would be useless. Didn't his grandfather give it to him?

On the way, I saw five hours of sleep - but your fire makes it all worth while.

Yeah I didn't get that at all either. I mean, they already knew Amy was controlling the bodies of the other dead people. Why would he do something purposefully to give her another body to use against Jesse? That made zero sense.

reply

Never bring a pocket knife to an unkillable, axe wielding demon fight. You're going to lose.

reply

Yup. Only an old melody from the 1800s will do.

OP, i loved the finale but i agree this part with Alex and his teeny tiny pocket knife was really stupid. the way the scene was shot/blocked it clearly showed he didn't even try to move out of the way of the axe.

reply

I couldn't understand why he didn't just run off with Jessie. It was one of those horror scenes where the monsters were only walking, not even trying to run.
All they had to do was run to one end of the camp, wait until the evil crowd showed up, then run back to the other end. Keep repeating until help arrived.

reply

Yeah. It made no sense at all. They could have easily just kept running back and forth. So he finally realized that his father sacrificed for him, so he sacrifices himself?! Ah no.

reply

I'm not sure what Alex was think either with that pocket knife, especially against someone with an AXE. He think he could just stab her dead instantly before she gets a chance to swing? It was a silly moment on Alex's part.

Not just a simple axe. An axe in the hands of a demonized girl! I laughed so hard when i saw it!

It's like in that one Freddy movie where the guy tries to use martial arts against Freddy. Like that's going to work on a demonic guy who kills you in your dreams lol.
