So you mean to tell me...

That in 1989 midwestern america, a black wannabe filmmaker(who uses a mid 90's camcorder), an openly gay kid, a russian immigrant, and a gender confused girl all became friends and camp counselers at the same camp? Im all for diversity in a modern setting but in 89? Come on, the *beep* just did not happen like that back then.

As Paula Abdul sang back then, they came together cause opposites attract, turd.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

I hear ya. This was fantasy land as far as that goes. They wanted to cover all bases with the characters. I will say though that by '89 being against the Russians wasn't really in play then. Early 80s yes.

reply

Thats what im saying. You wanna put these characters together in 2014 southern california ill buy it. And yeah that cold war anti red army stuff was pretty much null by time the wall came down

reply

Even today I am not sure if everyone would be all friendly to each other. That's why I thought the first few eps were way too preachy for my tastes. They definitely tried to pigeon hole today's sensibilities to the 80s. It didn't quite fit.

Thats freeform for ya

I'm black and from Chicago and around that time we went to a Lutheran camp that had a black counselor. This was near Amboy Illinois. There were Lutheran kids from all over, even mentally handicapped kids/adults. The unrealistic part is that the counselors were farking each other like rabbits. Around age 10-12 you'll already know who's gay, so it would be no need for them to tell you.
