Aren't Drew and Blair technically in a heterosexual relationship?

Blair is supposed to be gay, but he is with Drew, who is a male in his heart and mind, but for all we know, still has his female sexual and reproductive organs intact. I don't recall him saying anything about gender reassignment surgery. So technically, we have a boy dating a girl, which would make Blair bisexual at best. I am not even sure what Drew would be, since he is a biological female that identifies as a male and likes boys. Does that make him bisexual? I did pose a very similar question on The Fosters message board about Callie and Aaron, but this whole thing is baffling to me. I don't get it.

Yea...pretty much.... but I didn't really put too much thought into it.

I put too much thought into everything!

It's really tricky, and a bit far-fetched. It would make Drew gay and Blair pan-sexual, or he'd still be gay because he's attracted to Drew as a man. I think we have to look at it is as they fell in love with one another's hearts rather than what's between their legs. That would happen in a perfect world, maybe. But this is fiction.

I do know FtM who've transitioned and lived as a gay couple, same with MtFs living as a lesbian couple. However, Blair was portrayed more as the stereotypical gay guy, so I don't see him going long without the D. But again, this is a work of fiction. I doubt they were going for GLAAD awards with their depiction of LGBT characters. Even though I found it to be tricky, I still rooted for them at the end. Therefore, it worked for me.

You care too much about the sex lives of fictional characters. But let me try to explain.

Drew decides whether Drew is a boy or a girl. Drew has decided that he's a boy. Given his age, and the time and place the story is set, I'm going to go along with you and guess he hasn't had surgery. But that doesn't matter. Regardless of time, place, and finances, not all trans people have the surgery, for reasons of their own. But, it's kind of a rule with trans people that unless you're sleeping with them, what's between their legs is no one else's concern. I'm guessing in part because then they have to deal with other people telling them what they are without even knowing them based on that. You don't get to decide things for them, just like they don't for you. And Blair seems to see Drew as Drew sees himself, so I would say Blair is still gay.

The show twisted it around to think they are a compatible cute couple but the gay guy wouldn't really be attracted to her/him because he is really technically a female. He would be a bi-sexual by the true accounts. He is going to be having sex with a female body even though she wants to be considered a guy. That's the quick version of it all.

alesisqs61, exactly! well said.

Or would it be Drew using a strap on? hahaha.

their whole coupling is forced and makes no sense.

Yes. He is a homosexual man, she is a female-to-male transsexual character (but is still biologically a female). So IMO that makes them in a heterosexual relationship - albeit a confused one.

Or somewhat a bisexual relationship on Blair’s part. This is a curious scenario alright.

This relationship just doesn't sit right with me. No gay man would date someone with a vagina, whether Drew sees himself as a male or female. Blair didn't even know what it all meant.

And here's another problem: Drew doesn't look like a guy. The first time Drew popped into the screen, I could already tell; even if the characters were too stupid to notice it.

I feel like they should have chosen a different actor, because this actress' face is clearly feminine, and the shoulder-length hair is not helping at all. Not even the baggy, over-sized clothes is making much of a difference. Drew just looks more like a stereotypical lesbian than a transgender.

So when I see a gay guy kissing someone who is clearly a female (physically), it just doesn't work, and looks more like a heterosexual couple.

And let's not forget, this took place in the 80's. You would have to pay a fortune to get a Sex Reassignment Surgery, the kind of money that I doubt Drew could afford. So what's gonna happen then? Blair loves the dick, so obviously this relationship is not gonna last long.

Many years ago there was a HBO documentary where a Male to Female trans was married to a Female to Male trans. Craziest shiat I ever watched. I assume it's more common than we think since Sense 8 did the same thing.

Its because academics claim gender is a social construct and choice, and are trying to take these ideas mainstream.

I think most people can have friends and love any one, but when it comes to actually doing the deed, you like that one thing. There may be some bi people, but if someone is gay, they are attracted to that physically, not just psychologically.
