I understand and even somewhat agree with your opinion. I enjoyed them but in different ways. "What," was certainly funnier to me where I really found myself cracking up. And I did laugh throughout, "Make Happy," to be sure, but it wasn't as constant. This doesn't necessarily hinder the show, they're just different and offering up different ideas/thoughts/themes so the shows will be constructed differently.
I think it's easy to be disappointed by a lot of his stuff, actually, if you're going in expecting nothing, but straight up comedy. Overall though, I enjoyed MH quite a lot and you also got to remember that, "What," was pretty much the first time he had that kind of precision and production with any of shows, right? So, it really was all a surprise and something we weren't used to, but now we know what it's going to be like going in and perhaps that could affect the way someone sees it as well.
I prefer to just view them standing on their own because comparing them is kind of fruitless and takes time away from me rewatching them . Even if someone likes MH substantially less, I think they'd still agree it's better than most out there. I don't know, would you say that?
Anyways, just my 2 cents.
