I don't get it...

I'm just now watching this series and I just don't get why you would willing to let the cops feed you answers like that in the case of Brendan. I get these people are in rural america, but was he really that dumb to admit to murder? Or did he just not realize that was he was saying to please them was admitting to murder? It doesn't make any sense. If none of that happened why did he say it did? Then again he didn't know what the word "inconsistency" meant. I just don't understand why he's just not trying to argue his case, he's just so quite. If you know you're innocent fight for that and tell them the real story. There's just so many things that don't add up.

Why has no one actually tried to find a body? The bones haven't been confirmed as hers have they? I just don't see why he would kill someone out of the blue and go back to jail. It just doesn't make any sense any of it. I just finished watching People vs. OJ, and I just wish I could see into these people's heads for a second and know the real truth!

They describe Brendan as 'slow' or 'not like a normal teen.' I think Brendan suffers from some degree of mental retardation. They confused him, he wanted to go home, he was scared and these trained police offers were preying on that and got what they wanted from him. Over 75 times they called him a liar and just about 75+ times he changed his story so they would stop calling him a liar.

That whole interrogation sequence was very disturbing.

It's interesting that the film makers didn't try to bias the audience about Brendan's mental incompetence before that scene. At first you see what appears to be a sullen teenager. But you quickly realize something is not right with him and that he is 'slow'. You see it plain as day. And you also realize how wrong it is for those detectives to be speaking to him alone like that.

The really important thing on Brendan's mind was actually getting back to school so he could do his report for class. He had absolutely no clue what was going with him in that moment insofar as he was confessing to a serious crime.

For me, it was pretty plain the police were leading him and fishing for responses that they eventually got. I mean, what exactly does the term 'leading' someone mean (in terms of testimony) if not this?
