Most hilarious answer of all ...

was when the prosecution was grilling Brendan in court as to where he had seen anyone tie up a girl on a bed. Brendan told them he had read it in a book. The look of incredulity on the prosecutor's face was also hilarious. When finally pressed for the name of the book Brennan blurts out Kiss the Girls. I burst out laughing.

I get the thought of him reading being funny but what's so funny about it being Kiss the Girls?

reply

I cracked up because it was a smart-alec rhetorical question and Brendan comes back with a serious answer.

Brendan comes back with a serious answer

Exactly, no one expected him to actually come back with a legit answer. Was it rehearsed? Well only he knows.

reply

What episode and time stamp did this occur at?

reply

LOL. Do you honestly expect me to go searching through all the footage for the exact time stamp? I don't even remember which episode it was.

reply

I just watched it. I think its Ep 9 toward the end. If Brendan was being sincere then its possible he's smarter than people give him credit for.

I think it's safe to say Steven Avery read the book and told Brandon to say that. I believe Steven did it and threatened Dassey to not tell cops. He also manipulated him to say certain things to the cops.

reply

So you're saying that Dassey's "confession" was invented ... not by Dassey to give make the cops happy, but by Avery himself?

Sorry, but I don't think there was any way Avery could have communicated with Dassey after the arrest. And before that, all he would have said was "Don't tell anyone, or you will be in as much trouble as me". And given that Brendan's statements were given when he thought the cops just wanted him to give them something on his uncle, and he never considered for a moment they would use it against him instead, that's quite unlikely.

IMHO neither Dassey or Avery is a big reader. Brendan probably had a friend at school who read the book and showed him the "dirty" bits.
