Something interesting about the 'Skammen' poster in the old apartment

Saw this film last night - I thought it was excellent, a terrific new effort by Farhadi who is one of the best filmmakers working today.

Anyway, something caught my attention...in a room in the old apartment that the couple vacates at the start of the film, there is a framed poster of Ingmar Bergman's masterpiece 'Skammen' ('Shame') standing on the floor surrounded by other frames. The first time, the entire title is visible on the poster. But as the film draws closer to its conclusion, and there is a long sequence in the old apartment, there are two instances in which one can see the same poster, and both times a frame in front of it obscures part of the title - the first time it's half of the title, and the second time you can only see the 'S'.

This would either be a massive continuity blunder (not likely) or a bit of symbolism. I think it means that the male protagonist is trying to wipe out the shame he feels for what happens to his wife. Did anybody else notice this? Thoughts?

That's a very interesting point. And SHAME is a great Bergman film that should get a lot more attention than it does.

Great eye. I didn't catch that but when I watch it again I'm going to look for it. Your hypothesis is a good one.
