Is a lie a lie or good manners?

One issue I have with this movie is the premise that lying is always so terrible. Oh, I get that the lies Holly told were leading her to a lonely life, but the idea that she should never tell one just rings as disingenuous with me. When someone asks you “How’s it going?” or “How are you?”, are you supposed to really tell the truth? These are (for good or ill) recognized greetings in place of “hello” and not actual questions inquiring of what’s REALLY going on. But according to the premise of this story, Holly would have to confess her secrets, ills, bad things to strangers because she couldn’t lie anymore.

Simplistic, I know, but something I ask others when they say something to the effect that a lie is ALWAYS wrong or bad. But that’s just me.

But really all I kept thinking during this movie…NOT ON REX MANNING DAY!!! :)

She was a bit childish in her lie-telling. I think that it was just to back up the idea that marketing is a phony business who employ authentic-sounding liars.
