Watched first season. Pretty good show, but a minor quibble

Yennifer spent most of her life as a hunchback maid, then received training in magic. Fine, she is a magi. However, where did she pick up the skills to beat wholesale ass while not using magic in the dragon egg episode? Or did she cast some spell on herself that taught her melee skills...kinda like Tank downloading the knowledge to fly a helicopter into Trinity?

Many years had passed by then, she was centuries old by that point in time. Being that old, it makes sense they better themselves. Also this occurred after the time she was attacked by a magic wielding assassin and she failed to protect the baby, that she ended up burying on that beach. So maybe after all that she decided she needed more than just magic to protect herself and others.
