S2: So much better

Than the first season. Characters, music, story, everything is just a lot better

And production value is close to Game of Thrones …

The first two episodes were good.

But then it seems they start trying to emulate GoT and it goes badly imo.

This was much better than season 1... I am glad they changed the shitty armor of the bad guys. The show is very watchable.

My major complaint is that most the women are ugly and every tiny village is multicultural.

reply

I disagree.
Season one was ordinary because bad writers couldn't properly adapt great books for TV.
Season two was bad because bad writers decided to trash the original and proceeded to invent their own badly written bad story with bad characters and abyssally bad dialogues.

Quite a few good actors try hard to save this mess but I don't think anyone can.

how? season 2 has almost no character building AND the story is fucking boring. geralt had some pretty cringey lines too. i seriously couldnt give less of a shit about ciri. she was boring in the game and in this show too. witcher 3 was a total slog the moment i found ciri.

reply

I prefer this season over season one. While I originally thought Ciri was an annoying little pest in season one, she just lights up the screen in season two .... the power of makeup. While there weren't any time jumps like in season one, they still like to do too many jump cuts. The deathless mother meeting was hard for me to follow since the scenes kept jumping between each of the three ladies. They also left a lot of unresolved story arcs for viewers to wonder about. They never revealed who the fire mage was working for or the motives of the white flame. I was able to get some detailed explanations and spoilers from various youtube videos.

I think the deathless mother meeting was supposed to be confusing to the viewer. They themselves were confused about the who, what, where, when?

reply

It still an incomprehensible mess.

reply

I agree. It's still not great, but I like it better and am staying more interested.

Side-note: I was quite amused when the dock hand tells the Bard his song was overly complicated, and that he didn't understand there were multiple timelines in it until the fourth verse, which is clearly a meta reference to the first season of The Witcher.

I think I liked it about the same. The pacing was a big issue in season 1, but I think the writing was much poorer in season 2. Just things that didn't make sense or are really silly. Yennifer in hiding running around in a bright purple cloak, Jaskier unable to bite his tongue at a simple insult when smuggling people, meaningless Eskel death which apparently nobody's witcher amulet could detect the leshen in him also, super secret Kaer Morhen's location is none by practically everyone, super mutant monster hunters get easily slain by...monsters, father figure and wisest of all witcher's Vesemir decides it's a good idea to potentially kill Ciri (Geralt's child) without his consent and also his only source of making any additional witchers if Ciri dies, and the simple hero amazingly appears at opportune time to save other characters scenarios.

Production value and music I thought was great in both seasons.
