Look how they massacred my books!

It's a soulless husk of the original stories. In a rush to get through the plot points, they killed the nuance, the details, the magic and the atmosphere of the books. What's left is empty, devoid of emotion. What's the point of such an adaptation?

I didn't feel anything in the final scene. The only thought that crossed my mind was "that was it?". In contrast, I can reread that scene in the books and I still get shivers to this day. The difference is that large.

Oh come on... who cares about your precious books lol. Everytime there's an adaptation of a book, you book fans always whine how it ruined your books. If you love your books so much then read them. Stop watching the tv show. Just read your books. And shut up.

reply

People complain because seemingly every adaptation gets fucked up. Because the creators care more about pushing a political agenda than delivering quality entertainment. It's only natural that we should protest against it.

reply

There are occasionally great adaptations. The Expanse, for example, is well on the way to surpass the books.

reply

I haven't read the books so I can't compare, but I quit the show after the first three or four episodes. It was just so.. bland and generic to me.

Sooner or later, Hollywood will get around to ruining everybody's favorite books. There's like a dozen fantasy productions in the works. Sad days ahead for all.

reply

They ruined His Dark Materials too. Next one, the Wheel of Time and the Lord of the Rings series. It's gonna be fun/sad to watch diversity woke Middle Earth. At least, we have the Peter Jackson trilogy.

reply

I actually think this is a good time to make Wheel of Time. That's a pretty woman first series of books, that'll fit right in with today's agenda. But the tv rights for Elric are being bought and man... they ain't gonna make no kind of good Elric series in this media climate. That crap is f'n gonzo nuts.

reply

I've been hearing about adapting the Elric series to film for years now, but haven't seen anything come of it. I agree, I don't think those books will translate to the big screen.

reply

The books are great. The show is ordinary.

reply

The books are good until the Thanedd coup and then they become pretty bad.

reply

I have read all the books 3 times already and i enjoy the show very much. It´s no soulless by any means. People need to understand something that is called adaptation. It´s not supposed to be equal, some things don´t translate well to the screen.

Just enjoy without bitching, the show is well made

reply

No. Even on it's own, without being compared to the books it sucks. Generic Netflix crap, too much action and not enough worldbuilding, rushed storylines, cringeworthy humor, forced diversity among the cast. Just one shitty show among a hundred others.

reply

Good thing it´s just your opinion

reply

"just his opinion"? I wouldn't be so sure.

reply

Exactly, your sentiments relate to all movies and tv series. It's entertainment, enjoy it, everybody should stop the crying.

reply

It's meant to relate more to the games than the books.

reply

It fails either way.

reply

Look how they massacred my boobs!

That is also a criticism of Game of Thrones. The show was absolutely brilliant when it faithfully followed the books. However, when that material ran out and the HBO writers had to create on their own, the show fell back to earth. I think The Witcher is an okay show.. I wonder how good it would have been had they faithfully captured the genius of the original author.

reply

3 seasons and 2 movies already made. It's so terrible that people want to see more. Adaptation, the books can never translate equally to a tv series or movie. Dune is terrible, but if it was filmed just as the book, it would be 10 hours long.
