How long could it take before having (finally) a good Witcher series after the Netflix fiasco?

The Netflix fiasco won't survive more than 2-3 seasons maximum. Fantasy is quite an expensive genre if done well.

So...

It's gonna a be a while until a new (and perhaps good) Witcher series appears. How long would you say? 15 years? 20?

Fiasco? It hasn't even been released yet.

I would prefer to at least watch it before I write it off. It may not need more than three seasons. A lot of times shows last too many seasons.

This adaptation is riding the coattails of the games' popularity. I think this is there only real shot, outside of the European market. If it bombs, I could see it maybe being picked up as a movie maybe 10 or 15 years from now since the source material is really great, but not as a series again.

You're a dumbass....🙄

To be honest I'm not sure will ever be a good Witcher series.
The books are too raw and honest. Sapkowski is no Martin - he never felt a need to shock and gloat when crushing his fans' expectations. The books revolutionized the genre in a quiet way. There's also humor and some clever references and in general there's subtlety... And, let's face it, modern scriptwriters are not good with subtlety.

Yeap, that's a common problem with the literature of those countries (Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary). They usually have a very cynical and pessimistic (and however compassionate) view of human nature. Their sense of humor is often based on it. Hasek in Soldier Svejk has the same sense of humor than Sapkowski (but sillier), and they're equally very difficult to translate to a movie

Or Kundera. No way to make a decent movie from his books.

But at least they could have tried. Firefly (for example) was a good series about a cynical anti-hero and the main character had common elements with the Witcher. It's true that it was very American, but the tone could have been close enough for the Witcher series. Not the same, but some kind of yankee equivalent.

Instead of it, we have vanilla SJW modern Hollywood fantasy about a White Knight defending poor oppressed women and non-whites from evil nazi Polish white males. The usual drill.

Svejk was one of the books I grew up with. My mom used to read it to me (that and Rabelais) instead of children fairy-tales.

I read the first volume years ago. For some reason, they had a copy in my school's library.

The problem is not the studio but the material - witcher material is far from being great, although the setting is interesting.
