Paul Edward Stamets (born July 17, 1955) is an American mycologist, author and advocate of bioremediation and medicinal fungi.

The series Star Trek: Discovery features Science Officer Lieutenant Paul Stamets, an "astro mycologist" who discovers an interstellar mycelial network, played by Anthony Rapp and named in honor of Paul Stamets.

I've just found this by accident when googling Stamets as I wasn't sure how his name was spelled.
