WonderCon 2018 News (three items from TrekMovie)

For now we can share the clip that was shown during the panel, and just released by CBS. The clip is a scene originally shot for the season finale, but was not used. https://youtu.be/PGRJ4CvOvhc (other links included)

The scene features Michelle Yeoh as the former Terran Emperor Georgiou, now apparently running a bar in the Orion Compound on the Klingon homeworld. She is approached by a mysterious person who feels her talents are being wasted, so he recruits her into Section 31, proving the speculation about the black badges is correct. This means that there are (or at least were) Section 31 operatives on the USS Discovery.

The big event for Star Trek: Discovery at WonderCon 2018 was the “Visionaries” panel, populated with many of the behind-the-scenes department heads that make the show happen. On hand were Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts (Executive Producers & Showrunners); Tamara Deverell (Production Designer); Gersha Phillips (Costume Designer); Mario Moreira (Props Master); Glenn Hetrick & James MacKinnon (Prosthetics & Special FX Makeup); Jeff Russo (Composer); and Jason Zimmerman (VFX Supervisor).

Season two will show how Discovery fits into Prime Timeline
Season two will have more ‘Trekian’ tone
USS Enterprise design evolved and grew to match Discovery universe
New uniforms hinted at (possibly for the USS Enterprise crew)

At WonderCon over the weekend, Mary moderated the Star Trek: Discovery “Visionaries” panel and afterwards TrekMovie had a chance to speak with her at a roundtable interview, joined by other journalists.

Interviews getting less interesting, but the Production Designer one is good. One of the makeup guys looks like a biker. Both note how HD cameras make things harder.
