Why did she lie about Dylan?

She kept saying she never knew Dylan. Why was that? She didn't seem to have Stockholm syndrome so not sure why she did that?

My response will obviously contain some spoilers:

She lied because her kidnapper brainwashed her into believing that she was responsible for Dylan's death, and that her family and friends would never be able to forgive her/get over that fact. She convinced Dylan to help her try to escape, so her kidnapper killed him for it.

So basically she thought that acknowledging that she knew Dylan would bring the detectives closer to finding out he was dead and that she had something to do with his death.

Pretty stupid- it's kinda not fully believable- just another part of the show to make you wonder whether Ivy might actually have been a willing party and not actually a captive.

I'd say it's more to do with her being massively traumatized by the event.

She saw her only friend get violently beaten to death. Then she was the one who had to pour bleach on his body and wrap it up and then presumably she had to drag it down to the cellar then clean up all the blood/brain. She then had to live down there as his body slowly decomposed while her captor/rapist convinced her it was her fault and nobody could ever forgive her for it.

Not being able to speak about it very easily is about as good an outcome as you can expect.

I am at a complete loss as to why so many people think a child held captive in pretty terrible conditions for 13 years wouldn't suddenly become normal once they're released.

Millions of people have had far less traumatic things happen to them and end up committing suicide, falling into depression and not getting over it for decades - yet people think a child hostage who witnessed a murder and been tricked into thinking it's their fault should magically become a normal person within days? It is incredibly believable.

Ultimately she was dealing with 2 realities when she escaped. She was still under her kidnappers brainwashing and then she was thrust back into her forgotten past. People seem to forget she was kidnapped as a 13 year old. That's not like being imprisoned as a mature adult. And she was raped, forced to have a baby with a pedophile and then saw the only friend killed.

As an adult all that she had gone through would be hard to deal with and she was traumatized since 13.

what Jordie?
