A goof ??

When White calls the police it sounds like he says 'I'll only speak to my girl Alison' instead of Ivy.
Did I mishear or is this a goof?

reply

Ivy confirmed in previous episodes that the kidnapper only called her 'Alison'. I'm guessing why will be revealed in Ep 5. My guess is the kidnapper lost a daughter or girlfriend called Alison, and kidnapped Ivy as a replacement. Looking forward to finale next week.

Oh yes I remember, can't believe I forgot :)

Too bad they never did explain it!

reply

Just finished the series (deplorable ending) and no mention of the origin of 'Allison'.

"No mention of Alison" Alison could have been some childhood friend he was obsessed with. He's insane keeping a girl locked up for 13 years. There no reasonable explanation for that. He could have also just liked the name Alison. Crazy can't be explained or rationalized.

I wondered if it might have been his mother's name. After all, he was one sick puppy!

reply

They determined that his mother's name was Carol White, in episode 2.
In episode 4, when White called the police asking for "Allison", they confirmed his identity by asking for his mother's middle name, which was Valerie.

Your recall is impressive. Maybe you should've been a detective. 

I do have unusually good auditory memory -- but as I have minor hearing loss in the vocal ranges, I download subtitles to go with downloaded programming (which are basically a form of text file, that I can search later), so I don't have to rewind missed dialogue from a mush-mouthed, or heavily accented actor a dozen times in a show.

reply

I watch nothing but downloaded programming, a lot of which is foreign-language which means I must use subtitles. I have gotten very used to them, so they don't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I've come to enjoy them.

Keep on enjoying your shows and Happy New Year.
