I don't understand


How can two sets of families both living in Scotland (for over twenty years) have one set of kids with English accents and another with Scottish accents. Yes I know one set of parents were English and the other Scottish, but realistically all children would have the accent where they grew up.

I was saying exactly the same thing myself....I hadn't realised how long the children had been in Scotland till near the end.

I don't think it's unrealistic at all. There are many Scots people with "neutral" accents, especially if they're from Edinburgh, or just middle class. Also, it's not inconceivable that the children would have attended boarding school for Secondary education, given the remoteness of their homes.

That lack of strong accents especially rural ones was a real off-putting part of an otherwise great show for me! There are a lot of brilliant Scottish actors. Why wouldn't they have used them?  
