The 90's?

I wonder if they'll do that next year?

I hope so!

I'll bet they will. I heard this series has been getting good ratings. CNN always does 10 episodes of these. My guess for what the 90s episodes will be (in no particular order)

1. Clinton (he was president for most of the decade)
2. TV (they've always done an episode on TV)
3. Music (they've always done an episode on music)
4. OJ Simpson
5. The Internet
6. Geo-Politics in the Post Cold War era
7. The Economy
8. ???
9. ???
10. ???

They do 7 episodes, not 10.

reply

Wrong. For the 60's and 70's, they indeed did 10.

reply

Correction: they did 10 for the 60's and 8 for the 70's.

Gearing up for Y2K

I think Y2K would be a segment/part of the episode on the internet and computers.

Variety reporting that they have indeed greenlit The Nineties. Reportedly, it'll be eight episodes.

The lack of sticking to a format as far as number of episodes has bugged me about this series. They just should have done ten for all of them for consistency. The Seventies in particular really needed an episode dedicated to the movies of the 70s. I don't know how they missed that. They could have done a bicentennial episode to round things out.

I'm surprised they didn't do an episode on movies. I guess they sort of included movies in the episode on youth culture in The Sixties. The only thing I can think of is that it costs so much to license clips/music, that they decided to go with TV instead, because it is a documentary for television. If the only had the money to cover TV or movies, they picked TV. I agree with you, there should have been an episode devoted to movies.

Not sure if they could fill an entire episode, but Columbine was a pretty huge deal in 1999. And had long lasting effects. Other than the topics you guys discussed, maybe
Death of Princess Diana
Gay Culture

Great ideas! Columbine could be a whole episode, or maybe include it as a segment in an episode on youth culture.
