But Is it great filmmaking?

I saw it last night on HBO. Fascinating story and great journalism to get all of the parties involved to speak! It would have been a very good posting on the internet, a very good magazine article, and a very good newspaper story, even if those hadn't been written particularly well - - but it wouldn't win a Pulitzer if it wasn't written well. So, my question is whether the actual photography, editing and other aspects of filmmaking were particularly excellent in this film. My opinion is that there were not. This was a very good 60 Minutes segment. But is it a classic piece of filmmaking. In my opinion - the answer is "No"! I gave it a 7/10.

I strongly disagree. This was far above a 60 Minutes segment in production, cinematography, editing, music, and general film-making. No slight meant against the TV medium, but this was a much more cinematic offering. I've seen a lot of documentary films (features and shorts) at the Sundance Film Festival over the years and I've seen the type that you speak about, but I wouldn't count this among them.
