Was it two episodes aired back to back or did they edit episodes one and two into one super long episode?

I watched the premiere on PBS then bought Season 1 on Amazon, which is billed as the full length BBC version. (The whole season is not available yet, I assume they will add episodes to my purchase as PBS airs them.)
Anyway, so far the Amazon purchase is two episodes, which adds up to the 2-hour American premiere. I didn't really notice anything different, as was the case with the BBC/PBS Downton Abbey, where the BBC had some stuff not in the PBS airings. But I'm not sure.
