Why Albert not Ernest?

Why was the younger Albert consistently preferred for the match with Victoria instead of Ernest? I have tried to find to do quick Google but cannot find any source to explain why. Anybody knows?

what a odd thing to be rude about

A mistake is the incorrect way of doing things, not just another way!

It was a trend at the time. Nations didn't like being united through marriage and having to share a single monarch (which would have happened if Victoria and Ernst married and their son united the U.K. And Sachs Gotha). Often younger sons from royal familities (with connections) matched up with heiresses such as Victoria and Albert and a generation before Charlotte and Leopold.

Thank you. Makes a whole lot of sense now that you nicely and accurately explain it. Instead of being rude and wrong, like some people.

Makes sense, since 'Albert' being the younger son wasn't going to inherit a kingdom, and he would be the Queen's consort.

He was specifically chosen by the family and raised to be Victoria's husband since he was a teen ager (he was aware of it and she was too, at least since 1936 they both were). He was sent to the famous trip around Europe on Victoria's suggestion, because she didn't want to give her word about their engagement, she knew William IV was dying and she bought time saying he needed a better education if he wanted any chance to marry the future queen of england. He was younger than Ernest, very obedient and a virgin (at least with women: some books, like Stratchey and Gill, for example, say he was at least bisexual), this had a huge role in the choice, it would be a long speech.

AS noted above, a second son was preferable as Victoria would be the only monarch in the family. Also by most accounts Albert was the better looking brother.
