Was just about to ask what was meant by ten times and then she started jumping. Omg hilarious.

Sadly, it makes light of women who did not look forward to carrying a baby for 9 months after a few minutes of sexual pleasure.

Uncle Leopold's wife died in childbirth along with her baby. Charlotte was the only legitimate child of the Prince Regent (George IV). This caused problems in the dynastic line as there was no heir to the throne besides George's elderly brothers , none of whom had legal marriages or legal offspring. Hench a rush of quicky marriages among the brothers of which Victoria was the result.

So yes, the death of Charlotte would have been constantly on her mind. Fortunately Albert was insistent on the latest hygienic, modern methods.

This technique was used by women who worked for the Mayflower Madam. It wasn't used for birth control, but to keep time spent in the bathroom after sex to a minimum. Evidently her employees were paid by their clients by the hour and she would get complaints that women spent "hours" in the shower, even if they were only doing a quick wash. So the women were advised to jump up and down (I don't recall if there was an amount of jumps required!) before dressing. I still have that book somewhere; will need to find it.
