I agree with the insurance lady comment, but after watching years of true crime shows like dateline, 48 hours, autopsy, etc... Sadly this not only isn't far fetched, but IRL the killer usually DOES kill all the victims. There are of course survivors of serial killers, but sadly they are the minority.
