Why an Alcohol Consumption Disclaimer for the Cast?

What's up with that?

I'm assuming it's a cultural thing but is it a legal thing or a religious thing? Can anyone explain the context, please? Why is it significant enough to be a disclaimer?

My frame of reference includes lots of exposure to disclaimers regarding the fair and careful treatment of animals but this is the first time I've seen one about drinking alcohol. There are some religions in which drinking is prohibited but that's a personal matter, right?

I'm asking not only out of curiosity but also, I'm wondering if it hints at government control over the story depicted in the film. Is it a throwback to the caste system - a way of stunting the careers of actors whom do drink alcohol? Is it a personal choice on the part of the Director?

I sort of ignored it but then a few minutes later, I'd been exposed to some hateful treatment of a female character by her family and community. Condescending, dismissive, etc... no respect. And, she, herself opens the film acting more like a hysterical child than like a grown woman panicking. Not the same thing.

Then it switches to a song and dance number where at least the characters appear to be no longer acting hateful (oppressive) towards women. Terrible writing, casting, directing and acting. The music is good.

I agree with the OP of another thread... valuable story done a great dis-service by a decidedly untalented team. Nothing personal... the result is just that bad.

Didn't get you entirely, but the anti-alcohol and anti-smoking disclaimers are mandatory as per Central Board of Film Certification (of India) rules.
