Showrunner says there won't be crossovers with movies anytime soon

Lol. http://www.imdb.com/news/ni60649269?pf_rd_m=A2FGELUUNOQJNL&pf_rd_p=2540377602&pf_rd_r=1H49ZAN82XDJY8NYT0E2&pf_rd_s=center-6&pf_rd_t=15061&pf_rd_i=homepage&ref_=hm_nw_tp3

He leaves it open ended so you can have hope for the future, but I think he knows it's unrealistic that anyone will appear.

Aubrey Plaza continues to look like the only reason to watch this.

deadpool doesn't cross over to the x-men movies, that was good,
this is on FX, not on Fox, and with how dark gotham is getting, i figured this will be darker, more violent, and since atlanta won globes and had several f-bombs, hopefully that will inspire them to push the limits further, there is a market for adult comic material

reply

If you thought there were going to be movie crossovers you were deluding yourself though

I mean as everyone knows the X-Movie continuity is a total mess, they basically are making it up as they make each film

Pretty tough to crossover into a longer-running series

However that doesn't mean it can't happen if this show gets another season and/or if the X-movies start performing better in sales

And I'm sure it will still be fully possible to envision this show as taking place in the "Movie Universe" somehow

So yeah, that's how I feel anyways

reply

But why does it have to have anything to do with the movies? Why can't it stand on its own, as the Arrow Verse stands apart from the DCEU?

reply

Most fans want it all to be connected I think

So yeah, that's how I feel anyways

reply

Because that's how the show and creators are advertising it.

Actually, the creators have been extremely vague as to how it could connect to the movie universe. I don't think it will have anything to do with the films.

reply

It clearly will though. I mean they have stated you can view it as taking place in the same "universe". Again the problem is the "universe" appears inconsistent between different X-films though. But my point is even without actual movie characters we can still loosely find the connections and situate this TV series within the film universe. And it sets up for a possible 2nd season with those characters if it does well enough.

http://www.mtv.com/news/2941311/legion-fx-connects-x-men-cinematic-universe/

"Legion has a distinctive look and feel from the X-Men movies, and according to Hawley, it’s one that is “far enough away from the X-Men movies, but it still lives in that universe.”

So it is in the movie universe, but it will not have any connections besides brief spoken references most likely.

Not sure why you're dead set on them being seperate like the Arrowverse and DCEU.

reply

Thank you, yes this is exactly the situation at least for the first season. They are playing it cautiously at first and so the "in universe" thing is mostly conceptual but the point is, nothing in this show will like contradict the X-movies so it can easily be viewed as the same universe

reply

I think they are using the supposed "connections" to try to sell this a wide audience. I remain skeptical myself.

I think this will appeal to a niche cable audience, as it is probably going to be really weird and cerebral. That is why it is airing on FX instead of Fox.

reply

Yes I am also worried about how well it will get received. We'll see. I hope for the best.

fx has had better content anyways. It's Always sunny in Philadelphia, Wilfred, Louie, Burn notice, and Legit just to name a few let alone the Simpsons marathons...

ATLANTA!

No crossovers anytime soon =/= no crossovers at all.

It is confirmed to be in the same universe.

You've never seen Fargo, have you?

Some BODY once told me.

reply

The X-Men movie timeline is messed up.

Legion should not get sucked into the mess.

reply

I am over the moon that Legion will have nothing to do with the movies. Legion and the new show on fox should be connected. Neither shows should have anything to do with the movies. The plot of the fox tv show is very reminiscent of Night of the Sentinels Part 1 and 2.

reply

??? It will relate to the movies though
