Did they change the movie?

From the Lego sets already released in 2021 as shown here: https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Minions-The-Rise-of-Gru
It looked like they're going for more robotic theme with Bob operating a robot with long arms and some Minion-shaped robots... but they were nowhere to be found in the actual movie.

The robots were the guardians of the stone that Wild Knuckles stole from the temple. The robot with the long arms was, I believe, the "vehicle" operated by Jean-Clawed.

Hmm... I must be sleeping when they were on screen. Anyhow, it's still weird that robots are prominently used as multiple toy sets but the movie's tone is more about kungfu and mythological creatures and magic. And Lego usually loves dragons.

I don't disagree with you there. The robots were on screen for only 2 minutes, if that. Still, toy companies will pick up on even extremely minor characters if they think they can market them; and small little robots are a natural. Why they haven't grabbed the dragon is a mystery. I haven't been through the toy department for years; since I retired from my job in retail, so I haven't seen the toys.
