Cold War 2 Review

My biggest complaint about this film was without watching the first movie, it was hard to figure out character motivations i.e. who are the good guys and the bad guys. But the more you watch, the more you realize that guys like Sean and Lee don’t really fit the good/bad cop narrative. Both guys try to do what they think it right but have different methods of doing so, leading to a conflict of judgement. In reality, it’s outside forces manipulating their shades of grey to get their desired result. For a movie that is only in a limited release in the States, I highly recommend seeing this film before it leaves theaters and if you don’t get it in time, it is a must own when available. Cold War 2 gets my vote for best movie of the weekend. The story can feel too complicated at times but it also shows that there are great action movies coming from the Far East side of the world.

Thoroughly enjoyed the film. Did not see the first film. Looking forward to seeing the third film. Who was the man lying in a hospital bed in the final scene?

Without any preconceptions drawn from the first film, I thought both Sean and MB were good law-enforcement officials trying to do the right thing under difficult situations. Sean's responses during the hearing were telling. The two paths diverged when MB thought he could navigate honorably as a pawn towards a New World Order.

One nit I had was the serving of coffee by a female law-enforcement official on two occasions. Smacks of 1960's British Constabularies (as portrayed in Inspector George Gently) in modern Hong Kong.

I didn't like that women still had to serve the men coffee. Blah, they can't make their own coffee?

I wouldn't have minded had they shown male underlings being just as courteous and respectful to their boss by bringing them coffee too.

There was nothing in the two scenes that precluded one from being male; except for the perpetuated idea that women serve men.
