Started off intriguing (confusing conclusion)

So I finally forced myself to watch this entire movie last night. I've been meaning to watch it for a while now.

Now first off, I would say that for a film that's being promoted by Netflix, it is actually well-directed, had good cinematography, an effective score, a convincing dark and ominous tone, and for the most part, a pretty decent cast, considering the overall plot.

The beginning intrigued me. Initially, I assumed (spoiler alert) that this film was going to be about a group of friends who accidentally committed a murder (technically speaking), and now are forced to deal with the guilt and shame of hiding the truth of what they did. That was my initial assumption anyway. And even though that may not sound like a super exciting plot; it was at least something that I could wrap my mind around.

But around the end of the film, the plot went into a totally contrived, unnecessary, and confusing direction. So apparently, Josh becomes a weed dealing katana wielding murdering psychopath?? It just didn't make any sense. I could understand Josh feeling guilt for what had happened. But how exactly does that transpire into him becoming a killer? Did I miss something here? There were some other aspects I didn't understand as well. The ending totally lost me. And I didn't find Josh's character as a murderer to be all that convincing...especially when wielding a samurai sword. Now don't get me wrong, the actor who played Josh, Charlie Tahan, actually seems quite talented. I'm not saying that his acting abilities weren't good enough. I'm just saying his role, or at least his role around the end of the film was kind of unfitting. But still, he's a good actor. I'm not bashing him. Just poor writing choices.

By the way, what happened to one of the girls at the end? Did Josh chop her head off with the sword? Cause that's what it looked like.

And also, it's kind of weird seeing Charlie Tahan all grown up. I'll always remember him as the kid from I Am Legend. lol
