Theroux badmouthing Going Clear!

People that know nothing about scientology will find this movie to be a little bit confusing, and people that know about scientology will find the movie a little bit boring.

My Scientology Movie has some funny scenes and interesting moments, but in the end you don’t get a really profound impression of what the “church” is all about. Alex Gibney's Going Clear does a way better job, tackling the same subject.

Doing press for his film, Louis Theroux talked negatively about Alex Gibney's Going Clear, calling it a “talking heads” movie, and that My Scientology Movie used a more interesting approach. This is where Theroux is wrong, dead wrong.

When you start talking about scientology, a thousand questions pop up, and those questions need to be answered. And that is where Going Clear prospers and My Scientology Movie ends up being a missed opportunity.

want to take the same tour that louis takes you on? go to youtube and look for angry gay pope's vids
not really sure why he brought in rathbun and then attempted to turn the tables on him by trying to get him to admit that he also was as much of a terror as miscavage is
so what? marty blew. pretty much everyone in the upper echelons of the cult were/are terrors
why does louis attempt at times to see the cult through the cult's eyes
not a single claim that they make is valid.
they dont help drug addicts, prisoners, school kids, people in need.
they con everyone
and the cult is imploding. they dont get new members. they are forced to continue bilking their current ones until they are bled dry
very disappointed in louis
and im not a fan of going clear either
and no, marty is not going to bring the cult down. if he could, he wouldve done it by now

Yes, Louis made his movie about five years too late. People like me who would be interested in the subject already know too much about scientology to get wowed by the movie. The drill reenactment was really fascinating, and I wish there was more, much more. Instead there's a bunch of filler about tailing and filming the crew. Not enough interviews, not enough participants, it feels somewhat unfinished. I think this time a scientology movie did more harm (to Marty) than good (to people who'd like more secrets revealed for free).

By the way, notice how all the scientologists they meet are old?

Of course he's going to bad-mouth Going Clear, he wants people to watch his documentary, not Alex Gibney's.

I do agree with others that I wish there were more along the lines of what those exercises were, there wasn't nearly enough information to keep knowledgeable people entertained or give uneducated people information. He relied a little too much on only a few people and didn't really do a great job explaining the church overall.

I feel like Going Clear was a great informational documentary if you want to learn the factual side of Scientology, whereas the Leah Remini A&E show covers the more personal, emotional side of Scientology and does a great job explaining how a person can be tricked for so long into thinking they're doing good.
