This movie would've worked great as a dark comedy.

A poor woman who just wants to be left alone, but keeps being annoyed by crazy uninvited guests, would be great comedy material. It reminds me of Shrek. They still could've had all the religious symbolism, and people who don't know anything about religion still could've enjoyed it.
