Well she's judging not hosting the show. Similar to her job at "Fashion Police", but her critiques might actually help these young designers. She also has her own clothing line, has a history with PR and appears to know what she is talking about. She speaks their language, as she once was an awkward/bullied teenager, so her delivery is relatable/sensitive and encouraging.

shareThat may or may not be, but she communicates very well with the young designers, and has been encouraging more than once to someone who got a negative critique. To me, those are points in her favor, and, to me, they count more than her appearance does.

shareProbably for similar reasons that writers and actors are often inarticulate when talking, or that there are people who think they're ugly even though their features are beautiful: maybe there's a kind of emotional/essential division in their minds between themselves and what they're doing for others or for the art.
