Why do people think Luis is funny?

Seriously, explain this to me. His character is pretty much a male counterpart to Darcy from the Thor films, in that he's a comic relief - who isn't even funny - in a movie that is already funny enough without the character's sitcom quips thrown in.

So why is a character being unable to pronounce the word "system" funny? What is humorous about repeatedly saying "back it up" in a van that's already backing up?

I am by no means one of these mindless trolls who nitpicks the MCU to death, in fact I think the MCU as a whole is an unprecedented success on all fronts, with 19 films and counting, and even the weakest entries are still wildly entertaining films that stand head and shoulders above most contemporary blockbuster fare. This is just one glaring misstep that is a black eye on Ant-Man as well as the first two Thor films.

What makes Luis funny is his seeming inability to answer a YES-NO question without telling a long story. My girlfriend kept laughing out loud during his scenes in the first Ant-Man and even smacked me on the shoulder and said "That's you, babe!"

Because he's in the system!

For me it’s not so much what he says (a handful of his lines ARE funny), rather it’s the way he says things that makes him funny. His facial expressions and reactions throughout the movie are pure gold. His childlike ways... something the aforementioned Darcy shared... work for him as well. Speaking of Darcy, as much as I have a soft spot for her, Luis is undeniably a far more expressive, colorful, and crucial character (don’t forget dawg, he’s got his connections). But I digress.

So, why is the “SIZZEM” bit in any way funny to anyone? People likely laugh at it for the same reason it humors me: it’s Michael Pena’s voice, rapid delivery and mannerisms. That’s basically it! Moreover, Pena’s performance was pretty much a spot-on portrayal of a long-time criminal-ish friend of his; idk about you but knowing this only makes him funnier and more endearing in Ant-Man to me. So you say unfunny and useless? You are by no means alone on this, the internet will tell you that. But dude, you honestly ask why repeating “back it up” is supposed to be funny when the vehicle is already backing up? Really?!? Either you legit fail to get this character’s humor or you’re just nitpicking hard.

Verdict: Luis is a humorous and great character. A fast-talking, charismatic, tough, carefree, petty and yet very competent criminal who’s ecstatic over the fact he got to keep the family van in spite of their plight? This description does not do him justice. XD He was a refreshing character in the MCU and he rightfully became a fan favorite. And say what u want about him, but in the end he (along with his fellow wombats) proves to be so much more than a comedic relief: he becomes a hero himself. Also for what it’s worth, seeing a cool vato like Pena in an MCU film is awesome. There should be more Latino actors like him appearing in these films (preferably in larger roles), especially if it’ll keep TRIGGERING the bitchy anti-PC “all dis unnecessary diversity keeps ruining movies for me blah blah” crowd. Shout out to Gabriel Luna as the f’n kick ass Robbie Reyes!

Anyhow, I know I look forward to seeing more of Luis in the sequel. Oh! And hopefully his hilarious storytelling will return. Classic stuff!

I'm with you in that I don't find him all that funny, but I don't find him necessarily annoying like I did Darcy. Basically, he helps them meet the diversity quota without ruining the movie.

People think Luis is funny, the same way you do not. Personal taste. Not everyone likes everything. The old adage still applies: "You can't please everyone"
