Help save the boards!!

reply

Sorry, I say good riddance. So many toxic posts. Honestly. People post evil commentary about shows they have not watched. So much wrong with these forums. Lots of crazed fans and haters.

I for one will not miss the trolls and the vitriol.

You know...I agree with the OP.
I'll miss the boards.
It was a great way to check opinions on the movie/show I was curious about.

Not to mention the best way to ask questions of those who know better then I do.

Will that be done on social media now? Sure.
But, how about those without social media accounts?

There's ALWAYS going to be vitriol and sarcasm on these boards... Whether or not they're here or on social media.

Seems silly to take it away, tbh. Almost like they're covering up the actual reason behind the change.

reply

Yeah, it's really too bad that too many people can't just keep their negativity to themselves and feel the need to spread it like they do.

These forums do still have some use if you can sift through the garbage posts but I can see why they'd want to get rid of them, there's so much toxicity.

I wonder if more companies will follow this example? I could see the Amazon forums going away, those are even worse than the ones here.

reply

I'll miss them too even though there is an insane amount of trolling.

Sadly, I have to agree. So many hateful or just unrespectful posts.
And I am so fed up with the "worst ever movie" or "worst ever actor" board title messages. If you add all of them together, you'll rapidly find out the impossibility and the stupidity of the superlative. ;-)
Why people can't just talk and exchange instead of flaming and insulting?
I liked to come here and find answers to my questions, to read smart comments and get clues. But it's really becoming difficult to read a whole board message without having to read aggressive posts..
But instead of disabling the boards, wouldn't a real, active and live moderation be a better solution?

Yes there are lots of jerks who post trolling things, but ignoring them works wonders. The solutions they have laid out are not good enough, in my opinion. I will miss the boards and have thoroughly enjoyed them over the last years.

Facebook is too disorganized to properly replace the many individual boards for the shows, movies, actors, etc. and Twitter is too limiting with the 140 character maximum.

Guess I'm gonna have to make such site. Discussion starts on every episode Problem'll be purchasing evergrowing Space.

reply

I think the coat of the ever growing space is the root of the problem. It's much cheaper for IMDb to do away with the boards.
