Could be set in Anywhere USA

The "show runner" is American and it shows.

There is another similar thread where people are equating a statement that Class is "too American" with "this sucks so it's like American TV". I don't think that's what that poster is saying, and that's definitely not what I'm saying. There is PLENTY of terrible UK television that just isn't seen stateside unless you seek it out.

What I'm saying is that Class completely lacks a sense of place.

Doctor Who has a quirky sense of humour and a way of looking at the world that makes it very British. The show embraces it's Britishness.

If you were to transplant the action of Class to Ohio the only thing will have to change is the accents.

School life is understandably vague--the show isn't about school. But it's vague to the point that the education system is indistinguishable from the states. It's almost as if the show is trying not to be British, that it's trying to not alienate potential non-UK viewers.

And there are other more subtle things about the show that make it so generic that it doesn't seem to inhabit any specific place. And because it doesn't have a sense of place it relies on effects rather than plot and character.

There is a good show in here someplace, they just need to find where it is.

just watched the first 6 episodes.
For worldwide sales (it is part funded by BBC America)it has to be not too British, but a school class about Dunkirk is pretty British to me and an jokes about an Ofsted inspector, that is only in England and Wales.
So not convinced by the American complaints.

Sadly the increasingly American style of British society is real and not something invented by the BBC.

But if you wanted to complain about the PC aspect well I might agree there.
