Poor Research

SAS unknown to general public until 1980. D.i.s.c.o song 1980. Yet program set in 1977. Lazy research.

There is a lot of that about in this programme.

It's that man again!!

Spotted a couple of UVPC front doors with euro locks - even more anachronistic than they were in decade-later Moone Boy.

Way to much time on your hands

Not at all, they just recognised that accuracy was irrelevant. This show is not really set in the 1970s anymore than a Charles Dickens adaptation is really set in Victorian England.

The whole point is that it is pastiche, relying on the modern, nostalgia-defined vision of 1970s England. The biggest and most consistent joke in the show is that the entire world the story is set in is ridiculous and naive to our contemporary perspective. If they were trying to be accurate that would be far less the case.

The characters frequently use anachronistic, contemporary idioms when they speak, the whole show is full of caricatures of the period, even seeming to nod at the world of 1970s sitcoms, rather than 1970s reality - and they throw out fetished 70s references constantly. This is effectively 'I Love The 1970s: The Sitcom'. It's not an accident, and it's not simple laziness.

Now, if you find similar errors in This Is England, that's worth moaning about...
