Here’s a nasty piece of work: Trash Fire follows a gaggle of thoroughly unpleasant people as they collide for an unpleasant weekend of unpleasantness. Writer-director Richard Bates Jr. seems to be daring the audience to see how long they can stick it out and put up with all of this. You have to respect a film that’s so completely committed to turning its audience off. But you don’t have to admire it. http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/trash-fire/
You can't argue with the childlike insult slinging mentality of that dude, just check his any of his profile responses out and it's all non stop insult, name calling, insult ect. ect. to all who don't share his exact opinion on things. He's a toxic pos that should have burned in a Trash Fire long ago along with his entire bloodline as a form of eugenics.
Personally I found this film mostly forgettable, overall rather average and at the end disappointing. It had it's moments and some decent black humor, but ultimately it spent most of it's time showcasing unpleasant people and when it was time for the payoff from the wind-up it just ended with an anticlimactic bang. I would have preferred a scene with the priest at the house telling Owen, as he lay dying, the story of how he was framed for the fire. Followed by the sister capping Granny with the shotgun, Owen passing away and the Isabelle left stunned. I also found Adrien Grenier's acting choppy, he seemed to be the same character he played on Entourage. I agree that the direction wasn't particularly impressive nor was the editing or the soundtrack. The writer/director continues to be, for the most part unimpressive to me, Excision was a good film I gave a solid 6 to, but this I'm struggling for a 5 which is, most the most part, the same as my opinion of Suburban Gothic.
