SEASON 2

the former police chief Alan Moss parts are driving me nuts. he moves his hands all over the place in ways that don't even make any sense. ugh. at least his parts are getting smaller as the episodes go on. lol

reply

He does use his hands a lot! I actually really like his voice though, I find it so soothing and calming!

reply

yeah, i ended up just looking away when his parts came on. lol

reply

Hahah! I think the hand waving must be catching as Donald Rumbelow was doing it quite a lot on The Bermondsey Horror episode I watched tonight!

reply

as i was watching it, i thought to myself, "he isn't even Italian!" hahaa

reply

Hahah!!!

Really? I think Alan Moss is the best commentator on the series. I like his voice and his animated facial expressions. Pretty handsome, too. I am used to people talking with their hands, I suppose. In Europe, it's everywhere.

reply

His voice was soothing, but I got distracted by his hands. lol HBis hand motions had nothing to do with what he was saying at the time. I only use hand motions if Im trying to show something with my hands, or get something across. His gestures were just moving about for no reason. But, like u said, maybe its a European thing. :)

Well, there is body language. I noticed that Mr. Moss uses the gesture of extended hands, palms up. This indicates someone wanting to share something in an open way, in this case knowledge. Alan Moss, as you know, was a former Chief Superintendent with the London Metropolitan Police but he is also a highly respected historian of crime in that city and in the UK, generally. When authors of books on the subject look for someone to write a forward, he quite often is the authority of choice. I suppose the presentation of Mr. Moss must vary because, on the podium, he is as calmly at home as an Oxford don and doesn't use any hand gestures. Also, if you want to see how good-looking Moss really is, just check out his photo on Facebook.

u know a lot about him. :)

reply

Not really. But I do enjoy his books and on-camera appearances in such programs as "Murder Maps" due to my interest in the history of London, which includes that of Scotland Yard. I must say your comment surprised me because, as a lover of history in general, I have watched numerous "talking heads" on television and don't much take in account any habits of expression. If I found something distracting, it would never occur to me to go on a site like this and criticize them. I'm not sure why you found it such a big deal, but I'm here to tell you Alan Moss certainly has his fans in the genres in which he participates. Some of us like him and don't want his segments to be shorter--if that's okay with you. I only checked this site in the first place to see if there were any more seasons, as 2 just showed up on Netflix. I really enjoy this program--well written and enacted.

I must admit I gesticulate quite a lot, I am British though too, so maybe it's something we do more than other nations?
I really enjoy the narrators on Murder Maps, It really wouldn't be the same without them. Both Donald Rumbelow and Alan Moss I could listen to for hours. Both have very soft and calming voices and make the subject matter so interesting. I hadn't previously seen Nicholas Day in anything else, and he is fantastic too, I hope they make more seasons of Murder Maps as I've taken to rewatching the entire series! There's plenty of historical material they could use so hopefully there will be more episodes soon.

reply

yeah, i definitely enjoy the series and hope for more episodes.
