Kinda wish they cast a more intimidating looking actor to play Novarro

Cause i dunno, i just imagined the big leader of this vicious drug cartel to look a bit more menacing and intimidating looking. He just looked kinda chubby and average size.

I mean Del from season 1 looked much more like how imagine Navarro should look, Del was a big intimidating guy, Novarro just looks like someones dad.

Is he supposed to be Wilson Fisk or something?..

A couple of things, though: Del wasn't a "big intimidating guy", he was around the same size as Marty. And Navarro's looks are in line with those of other drug lords. Pablo Escobar was friggin 5'6" and overweight.

I guess i'm not saying he needs to be huge to be intimidating, but ffs the little bald guy looked more menacing and evil than Novarro did, its about presence and the actors face. And just because Pablo Escobar was short and fat every drug lord/cartel leader has to look like that? This is a show where they have the power to choose the leader of the cartel, why not choose someone that looks mean as fuck and looks like you don't wanna fuck with him?

Del ok yeah he wasn't a real big guy, i just meant he was intimidating, he had a presence about him, a much more menacing presence than Navarro thats for sure.

Actually, I just rewatched the scene where that little bald man was waterboarding Helen, and to me he kinda looks comical, with almost a cartoonish villain expression on his face.

The thing that I personally have found kind of unrealistic is that both Del and Navarro speak such good English - I guess we are supposed to think they were educated in the States.

At first I thought the short bald guy was Navarro. That dude is intimidating despite his stature.

Exactly, the little bald guy was way more intimidating than Novarro himself. I'm not saying he needs to be huge to be intimidating but the guy they got just didn't bring much menace to the role.

Looks aside, I assumed the stereotypical characterization and when he is first presented, he seemed too introspective, calm, and non threatening. I was also surprised his security detail and entourage was small.

However, in Narcos and Narcos Mexico you see both types and that plays out well. Given he likely is a much more important character in the next season with his closer relationship to the Byrds, he will likely have a more interesting relationship with them, rather than some hot head super imposing figure they just live in constant fear of.

In the real word, usually shot callers in prison is the guy who looks like the biggest nerd. The guy with the brain and guy with the muscles play totally different roles in the criminal underground.

Episode 1 reeled me in. Marty trying to talk his way out of death in that first episode. Awesome show. That Del actor always a baddie in movies. Remember him with Sean Penn in Bad Boys?

El Chapo and Escobar are/were small guys but they still ruled over huge drug empires and were feared by everybody.
