What's with the gay agenda?

The gay scenes between Petty and Russ Langmore look so forced. I'm all for gay rights, but this right here is gay propoganda. The gay story arc is completely unnecessary for the show and is only included to promote a progressive Netflix agenda. You could have easily had an attractive female cop seduce Russ, yet you have a gay cop attempting to turn a redneck hillbilly into a homosexual, and what do ya know...it worked. Makes absolutely no sense.

reply

Russ was into it
He got picked up with a young guy by cops previously
Thats how Agent Petty sank his hooks into him
Im not political at all but i honestly dont see a 'Gay Agenda' here or in most things i watch...thats conservative media bullshit
Some people are just alternative lifestyle...who really cares?
Also, Agent Petty was a huge creep and shithead for using sexuality as a weapon and 'selling' his own body for a stupid case
Russ just liked dudes...who cares?

reply

Like I said, I'm actually an advocate of gay rights. However, forcing gay scenes down our throats when they do nothing to contribute to the story line just seems off. It all just felt so forced.

reply

He said down our throats...sounds like a homo agenda...

reply

'Down our throats'
Priceless!!
My point is i thought it was a decent storyline and i doubt Netflix is trying to push us all toward perpetual beardy kisses

reply

It's not just this show. Literally every Netflix original series / movie I've seen (and I've see quite a few) feature an LGBTQ character or scene. It just seems like Netflix has an agenda they're trying to push, and they're doing it in a very aggressive fashion that makes it confusing to viewers because most of the time the scenes just don't fit into the storyline. The scenes are just there to check the box.

reply

Yes it is everywhere now -agreed
The alt - lifestyle thing is just the new rage for writers
Guys like you and i are pretty much standard and old school now...boring... everybody's got one of us at home lol
-which is fine!
I guess the production companies follow the newest societal trends to make their product more 'in the moment' or edgy etc
And at the moment 'queer-
sissy'/gay/lez/trans etc is ' the new black'
I cant pretend to understand it all but ive known lots of gay or alt types over the years (i live in NY so...)and theres no vast gay-wing conspiracy against us haha:))
We will survive the gay tidal wave of gayness Batman-great talk
:)))Cheers!

"Guys like you and i are pretty much standard and old school now...boring... everybody's got one of us at home,"

I think I am one of the standard old school boring guys you are talking about and I can tell by the way you write, you aren't one of 'us.'

"and theres no vast gay-wing conspiracy against us haha:))"

Spoken like a true fag.

Cool story

I just have to ask you why anytime a same sex relationship is shown it seems to be part of "the gay agenda"? If it were a hetero couple would that be part of "the straight agenda"? If you are an advocate for gay rights, why would it bother you? Do you complain when hetero relationships seem forced?

I'm not trying to be combative. I am asking because I really don't understand.

reply

OP seems like a nice guy imo and not some troll jackass
So if i may...i think its because a lot of people (myself certainly included) just have to adjust to new realities and it aint always easy
I remember the early '80s when the first black and Puerto Rican families moved onto our all white block in Yonkers,NY (a racial hotbed at the time no lie)
My little mind was totally blown !
Came to be good friends with all of them and learned their cultures/music/food...good times
Im not really on any 'team' with the Alt-lifestyle movement but i am accepting of good people...and i dont want to deny decent people their rights
I feel like the OP is a like-minded person
Sometimes new stuff just freaks us out for a little while...

reply

I agree that I don't think the op is trolling. I don't want to seem confrontational at all, I just think that sometimes we need to question ourselves and do we really mean what we say? (myself included). If we support rights for a group, then why would seeing those that we support be an issue? If we can answer ourselves honestly it can help us be more accepting. Like you said, new stuff freaks us out a bit and like the lyrics in the animated Beauty and the Beast... " We don't like what we don't understand, in fact it scares us."

reply

All fair points
Agreed

reply

Completely agree, seemed really forced, so much so that it took me out of the show with the realization I was watching SJW 101 via Netflix. They could've used a female agent with that same angle and nothing would've changed. Lame!

reply

Whether you agree with it or not there is clearly a widespread agenda in Hollywood to cram as much homosexuality as possible in t.v. and film to help "normalize" it. Exposed to anything long enough it will become normal no matter what it is. It's basic human nature to adjust. With that being said, there's nothing wrong about being indifferent to a character who happens to be homosexual and it's completely normal to not wanting to see overtly homosexual sex scenes

reply

I thought it was really well done and felt very natural. I really felt for the poor guy when psycho cop turned on him. Strangely enough I think psycho cop actually liked him.

I don't see any agenda being shoved down anyones throat. Some people just see agendas wherever they look.

reply

Whether or not you see it it is definitely there. Not really an debate at this point regardless or not if a person likes the word. I "mostly" thought the show was okay (not great) regardless however

reply

Yes I think the Fed guy liked Russ, and Russ definitely liked him.. But the nutcase cop needed to make this arrest no matter what. He did try to offer Russ a way out, but it was a shitty deal.

reply

Because you are a homosexual......

reply

A lot of the writers, producers, directors and actors in hollywood are gay... loads... it just shows up naturally in the shows they decide to fund, write, direct and act... They're not trying to "turn" people, or promote a lifestyle, it just comes naturally as the shows they make reflect their sensibility...

Check out the discussion on Mindhunter here... I don't think it's an agenda... it's just their natural expression.

You don't notice it as much in big movies because they have to be sold in China... You don't even get side characters who just happen to be gay the way it used to be in the past... So maybe in TV it's a reaction to that, in some small part?

I don't know if this is a factor in this show, but Netflix does seem to have a very gay friendly bent... Maybe they have producers/executives who are gay, or maybe it comes across naturally because they don't need to play to a large audience so don't have to water down shows that have that sensibility... I doubt that they have an active pro-gay policy...

Think of any drama school... it's 80% women and of the of the remaining 20% guys, most are gay...

reply

Yeah - they are really pushing it this decade.
Most high profile shows have at least one gay character, even if there are only 5 characters in total.

It's definitely an agenda - there are by far fewer interracial couples in tv shows than there are gay ones, for example. When the US is as divided as it is now, you'd hope they'd try to show more interracial couples as a way to promote peace and better understanding between whites and blacks, for example, but nah, it's all about gay stuff.

Perhaps with Kevin Spacey debacle, the gay love fest will quieten down a bit? Maybe, but I have major doubts.

Absolutely and as I said regardless if if you like the word "agenda" there clearly is one. Also I'm glad you touched on a point I pretty much never see brought up. The fact that the agenda is so aggressive at this point that homosexual relationships are depicted far more often than interracial straight relationships (especially involving white women). Just think about how many significant black male/white female romantic arcs on t.v. or film compared to depictions of white lesbianism. It's not even close. I'd even wager to say that interracial lesbian arc are more commonly depicted. It just goes to show how aggressive this agenda is at this point because based on how it's portrayed in the media today one would have to assume that lesbianism is a far more regular occurrence for white women than romance with non white men. That's actually pretty sick.

reply

And you wonder why viewership on mainstream tv has dropped significantly?

reply

You might as well ask about the heterosexual agenda, too, what with all the scenes in the "titty bar".

But you didn't.

reply

there is no heterosexual agenda. heterosexuals are normal...

reply

whoosh

reply

the gay mafia is behind this

reply

yes, their favorite position

reply

Sounds like you were triggered by a tv show. Must suck to not be able to enjoy anything that doesn’t have your exact beliefs reflected back at you.

reply

A few gay characters makes it have a gay agenda?
