With The Comeback Kid John Mulaney Goes Home & Grows Up

Impressive for someone with only three recorded specials under their belt, John Mulaney has already solidified his place in the hall of modern comedy. Not only are the albums themselves varying degrees of quality, but this is also the man responsible for SNL’s Stefon and Kroll Show’s George St. Geegland, two characters as perfectly specific as they are riotously broad. Somewhere between the classic idea of a routine as diagnostic of modern times and the more irreverent brand of absurdity, John Mulaney continues to prove his strengths with The Comeback Kid: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/tv/the-comeback-kid-john-mulaney/

I just watched this on Netflix and was blown away. I kept thinking "Who is this guy and why haven't I heard about him before?"

Checking out his past work explained a lot. This guy is hilarious.

Sig: "U" "PPL" "WAT" etc. are not words. Grow up. "then" is a reference to time not a comparison.

I really don't get the outpouring of love for this guy. I watched the special. It was okay. I didn't laugh as much as I did during, say, Demetri Martin or Anthony Jeselnick's latest Netflix specials. Just okay. But people seem to love him.

The easiest answer to your dilemma is that he appeals to the humor of a lot of people, but unfortunately you're not one of them. Just because you don't find a comedian funny doesn't mean other people won't. Everyone has their own sense of humor.

Just because you are too stupid to understand it, it does not mean that it is a plot hole

I had never heard of him either. I loved this one. "Hello? Hush"

I believe that probably happened.

Loved this special and was a fan of his previous "New in Town" as well.
You mention a third special, what's the name and was it recorded on video or sound only?

8/10

I'm a similar age, Irish Catholic, but gay and from Boston. A lot of his jokes worked for me but I think he plays it waaaaaaaay too safe, which can be boring. Ellen DeGeneres' standup was safe too but it's so funny you don't notice.
