Not a fan of this "Janet"

She's an excellent theatrical actress, and she has very good delivery. But for my money, in a production like RH, she's much too mechanical. Where audience participation is par for the course, I think she fails to deliver.

There's no interaction, no emotion, no raw production value. She's consistent in that she delivers her lines, however, there's no passion, no connection, no interplay and while the rest of the actors seem to be engaging and fun, she, on the other hand, is more robotic. Over-rehearsed maybe?

I don't think she brings anything special or unique to this production unlike the other actors.

"Riff Raff" and "Frank" did a spectacular job! Far superior, I believe.

But this "Janet" character just reminds me of soggy milk toast.

My only real issue with this version of Janet was that she came off as too much of an airhead here. The actress who played her certainly had the right singing voice for a live performance, but her acting leaves something to be desired. Then again, Susan Sarandon will always be Janet to me, and I don't think she could play an airhead even if she tried...

Unlike her fellow cast mates, she came across as humorless. I think part of it was that she tried to ignore the audience - unlike Brad, who was frequently on the verge of breaking character, and Frank, who was reveling in taunting them.

I think that's precisely what I was trying to get at. I think she's a technically good performer. However, in special regard to a production such as RH, with the audience participation that has made this such a cult classic, she lacked credibility.

She was stiff, there was no real "chemistry" between her and any of the actors at all. None of them. Nothing. Like cardboard, just stiff and over-rehearsed, no feeling.

As I said, in another production of something else, I'm sure she's quite good. But specifically for RH, there needs to be more dynamic interplay between the characters, and the rest of the cast was brilliant! She was just rather boring. Not enjoyable, not engaging.
